Your Dental Condition Is An Indicator Of Your Overall Health

By Aazdak Alisimo

As you age, your health becomes paramount. Those old tweaks and injuries you used to laugh off are not so funny anymore. Some mornings, getting out of bed can be a pain. Well, you need to also consider your teeth and what you can do for them.

The health of your teeth and gums should be critical to you. If you have ever had a head splitting toothache, you know as much. It can bring the roughest, toughest biker to his knees in tears. To keep this from happening to you, consider the following.

Did You Know - Good dental health can reduce you risk of having a premature baby.

What Causes Tooth Decay - Tooth decay occurs from frequent exposure to foods containing carbohydrates, starches and sugars such as sodas, candy, ice cream, milk, cakes and even fruits, vegetables and juices.

Your Incisors - The Incisors are the teeth in the very front. They're the sharpest teeth, built to cut food and shaped to shovel the food inward.

Braces and Sugary Foods - Be sure to rinse your mouth out after eating sugary foods. If you don't the sugar will remain on your teeth and braces, which can cause cavities.

What is the best mouthrinse? - Anticavity rinses with fluoride have been clinically proven to fight up to 50% more of the bacteria that cause cavities.

Worn-Out Fillings - Some fillings can last for 15 years or longer. Others, however, will have to be replaced as soon as five years after they are placed. Your dentist can determine if your fillings are worn enough that they need to be replaced.

Molar Teeth - The Molars are the last teeth towards the back of your mouth. Molars are much bigger than the Premolars and have bigger, flatter chewing surfaces because their job is to chew and grind the food into smaller pieces.

Should I use a rinse - Most rinses are, at the very least, effective oral antiseptics that freshen the mouth and curb bad breath for up to three hours. Their success in preventing tooth decay, gingivitis and periodontal disease is limited, however.

Avoid Teeth Stains - If you want to keep your pearly whites glowing, avoid nicotine, soda, tea and coffee, which stain teeth.

Cooling Toothache Heat - A toothache can be hot and, well, ache. One way to numb the pain is to hold a plastic bag of ice wrapped in a towel against the skin adjacent to the ache.

Going to the dentist is hardly high on anyone's list of things to do. That being said, failure to give your teeth tune ups can lead to massive problems later on. If you don't want to spend thousands on your mouth, take action now.
