Does Cedar Fever Have You Down? It Doesn't Have To Be That Way!

By Dr. George Best

The season of mountain cedar pollen is upon us once again in South Texas. For anyone who has cedar allergies, this comes as bad news. Cedar allergy symptoms, or "Cedar Fever" as the syndrome is often called usually consist of congestion, sneezing, coughing, and itchy, red eyes. As the name suggests, many people will also run a low-grade fever.

In the Austin, San Antonio, and Texas Hill Country regions, mountain cedar pollen is produced in huge quantities from December through February. For those who suffer from cedar allergies, even the allergy remedies that work most of the time are simply no match for the massive amounts of pollen produced by the numerous mountain cedar trees in the area.

This time of year, a common segment on the local news will show someone shaking a cedar branch and producing a cloud of the dusty pollen. The fine grains of pollen are blown from the trees and carried all over the region by the strong, gusty winds that are normal for this time of year. Cedar pollen counts can go so high that they actually go beyond the pollen charts and the pollen begins to register as an air pollutant. It's no surprise that this is a tough time of year for people with allergies.

You can't avoid the cedar pollen, but fortunately there's a new way to eliminate cedar fever. This method is painless, fast, amazingly effective, and the effects can last for years from a single office visit. It may seem a bit strange, but the results speak for themselves for those who experience it.

By stimulting the body's acupuncture meridians (which can be done without needles) in a special way, the body can be desensitized to cedar fever. There is more than one version of the basic technique, but all use the same underlying concepts. I have been performing this procedure in my office for the past 8 years and I use a "cold" laser to do the acupuncture stimulation. Cold laser has the advantages of being safe (this type of laser does not burn at all), completely painless, and it can be used right through most clothing so there's not any need for the patient to get undressed. Since it is painless, it is extremely patient-friendly, and it can be used easily even on young children.

The desensitization effects manifest quickly, usually in about 24 hours. The effects also usually last for months or years. A single desensitization procedure will typically last for the whole cedar pollen season, and usually for many seasons to come - and that's without any additional treatment, ongoing medication use, or even any kind of supplements!

Cedar fever can now be a thing of the past for those who are open minded enough to try this rather unusual technique.
